Hidden between the hills of Central Portugal lies Malhadil — a once-abandoned village slowly brought back to life.
Old stone houses, wild land, water, trees and traces of the lives that came before us form the ground beneath our feet. Today, the village is alive again. Not to recreate the past, but to remember something we may have lost along the way: how it feels to live closer to nature, closer to each other and closer to what is alive within ourselves.
Here, life moves a little more with the rhythm of the seasons and a little less with the pace of the outside world.
STAY
You can pass through. Or you can stay for a while.
Sometimes a different perspective begins simply by waking up somewhere different.
Stay in one of the old village houses, studios, rooms, yurts or hilltop homes. Find your own space and, whenever you feel like it, step outside into the life of the village.
There is nothing you have to become while you are here.
Just give yourself some time to be.
LIVE
Malhadil is not only a place to pass through. For part of the year, we invite people to come and experience the village not simply as visitors, but as villagers.
Bring your work. Bring your ideas. Bring whatever chapter of life you happen to be in.
Have a home of your own while becoming part of something shared.
Cook together. Eat together. Create. Move. Rest. Contribute. Spend time on the land. Sit around the fire. Share what is alive.
No prescribed way of living. No promise that we have found the answer.
Simply an invitation to experience what happens when we make a little more space for connection, nature, creativity and community in everyday life.

New people bring new stories, ideas, energies and perspectives into the village. And we love that.
Throughout the year, Freedom Ville becomes a meeting place for retreats, workshops, dances, dinners, celebrations, conversations and experiences created by people from near and far.
CO CREATE
Freedom Ville was never meant to become a finished product. It is a place that keeps evolving through the people who pass through it, live in it and choose to contribute something of themselves.

OUR ROOTS
Malhadil has its roots in Portuguese rural life - in a time when villages were shaped by the land, the seasons and the simple necessity of people depending on one another.
Those roots still matter to us.
